  1. Onward (55-60 million)

Expected to easily top the box office next weekend is Disney-Pixar’s Onward which is already receiving some solid reviews (84% “Fresh” on RottenTomatoes and 75/100 on Sweet and Sour), and predictions seem impressive. Box Office Pro reports that the animated film is expected to gross anywhere from 50-70 million dollars from Friday to Sunday, and averages it out at about 55-60 million. While this isn’t Disney’s biggest affair, it will do the job. Taking in the more conservative predictions, Wikipedia reports that Onward is headed towards a 44 million opening, Pixar’s lowest. However, with solid reviews, and word-of-mouth, it should be higher. Also, Box Office Pro predicts that if all goes to plan, the kids adventure will close at an impressive 227 million in domestic ticket sales.

  2. The Way Back (10-15 million)

Our second film to predict is sports drama dubbed The Way Back which is starring Ben Affleck, a highly bankable star. However, with its R-rating and heavy themes, it may appeal more to adult audiences, which isn’t great for the box office. Box Office Pro reports that the movie is going for about 12-17 million, or approximately 13 million dollars—which is fine. The budget is only about 25 million, and Pro says that it will end up at 43.5M in North America. Wikipedia has gone on the conservative side, and writes that the picture will open to a mere 7 million, which wouldn’t be good news.
