By: Keaton Marcus

what the hell’s actually going on? Where did comic-con go?

In the time of the pandemic, IGN has partnered with SDCC to create Comic Con @Home, where we watch the panels from your TV screens, laptops or even phones. On this article, we will update readers each day on what’s happening with the most important panels.

Amazon has also made Amazon Virtual Con, where you can watch online for Prime-centered panels, such as interviews for The Boys, Upload and trailers for upcoming originals. Otherwise, IGN will take care of literally every single panel available.

So if you want everything Prime, head on over to Amazon Virtual Con, if you want to tune in to everything, there’s IGN.

hbo max gets a looney tunes cartoons panel:

Looney Tunes Cartoons executive producer Pete Browngardt, supervising producer Alex Kirwan, art director Aaron Spurgeon, and voice cast members Eric Bauza, Bob Bergen, and Candi Milo come together for their very own Comic-Con @Home panel.

The panel exclusively premieres an all-new, suitably loony cartoon short, and takes you into the process of how they brought back the iconic characters in a whole new series, now streaming exclusively on HBO Max.

The full panel is available above, as well as the 80th anniversary panel for Bugs Bunny.

the cast of the 100 head to comic-con (well, sort of) for the last time:

For six seasons now, The 100 has been thriving both critically and commercially as one of YA’s most popular assets. The cast includes Marie Avgeropoulos, Lindsey Morgan, Richard Harmon, Tasya Teles, Shannon Kook, JR Bourne, Shelby Flannery, and they join creator/executive producer Jason Rothenberg.

They gather to discuss what’s in store for their characters in the seventh, and final season, and we also get some sweet goodbyes from cast members whose characters sadly died.

Watch the full panel above.

netflix’s hoops panel:

Hoops is a new Netflix adult-animation comedy series coming this summer on the platform. The star-studded cast of the show have come together to discuss their series at Comic-Con.

The series follows a foul-mouthed basketball coach who is sure he’ll hit the big leagues if only he could turn his terrible team around. The voice stars include Jake Johnson, Rob Riggle, Ron Funches, Natasha Leggero, Cleo King and A.D. Miles. They join executive producer and creator Ben Hoffman and moderator Max Greenfield for a hilarious Q&A.

The entire panel is available to watch above.

justice con panel gives first look at henry cavill’s black suit for the snyder cut:

At the Justice Con panel, Zack Snyder dropped some major Justice League news for his upcoming Snyder Cut of the 2017 movie. He first revealed that the entire world will get their first look at his director’s cut through DCFandome, an event set to premiere August 22. At that same event, he will also reveal whether the Snyder Cut will be a film or a series.

The biggest surprise came when Snyder showed us a clip of Cavill’s Superman donning the black suit, which although was planned in Justice League, Warner Bros. felt it was too dark for the Man of Steel. Fans should recognize the scene where Superman flies to Batman’s hideout and runs into Alfred, which was included in one of the deleted scenes of the Justice League home release, but there the suit was the normal red-and-blue.

The tweet and video are above and available to watch.

the filmmakers discuss a possible sequel to constantine during the 15th anniversary panel:

During the panel celebrating the 15th anniversary of Constantine, which has gained a kind of cult following over the years, the filmmakers and Keanu Reeves himself discussed the possibility of a sequel. And, yes, despite the mixed reviews it garnered during its initial release, it has become a fan favorite.

However, fans who tuned in hoping for a sequel announcement would have been massively disappointed after director Francis Lawrence explained that they’d do a sequel right away if they could, but due to the film’s moderate box office success and oddness, it just won’t happen.

Above, you can watch the entire panel, where they break down the movie’s coolest scenes, explain why Michelle Monaghan’s character was cut so much and more!

we get a first look at rick & morty: season 5, revealing rick’s nemesis:

On Friday night, during a Twitch panel, Adult Swim gave the many fans of cult sci-fi hit Rick & Morty a first look at season five during this impromptu Comic-Con event. The team behind the show has been working on this anticipated season remotely during the lockdown, and the series is already being written for a season six.

The first look at this season featured some pretty unfinished animation, and the whole thing plays out like a series of storyboards, but we did get one big reveal. At the end of the video, we get a look at Rick’s nemesis, an Aquaman wannabe who doesn’t want you to forget his name.

panel for antlers gives us a whole new perspective on guillermo del toro’s new “monster”

Del Toro’s new horror movie Antlers centers around the Wendigo, a mythical creature. Del Toro explained that you must get key things right about its look, as the antlers are a must. As with most of his films, the antlers or any other effects will be largely practical, with only a couple digital enhancements.

The entire panel is above, where you can watch an exclusive featurette and teaser for the film.

bill & ted face the music panel has kevin smith largely praise the movie:

The panel for Bill & Ted Face the Music wasn’t hugely about news, and was more about sharing love for this upcoming sequel. The movie reunites William Saddler as Death, Alex Winter as Bill, and, of course, Keanu Reeves as Ted. It also stars Samara Weaving, who had her big break last year in Ready or Not.

Weaving, who plays Bill’s daughter in the movie, expressed that her favorite moments in the movie were watching the original trio get back and act together again.

She said that “watching those three have that very special time, it almost felt intimate, that was really touching and incredible. I felt so lucky to actually be there and watch it.”

Reeves, who also attended the panel, agreed with Weaving, saying “I can’t feel or laugh or do anything like that the way I do working on Bill & Ted and working with Alex. That doesn’t exist anywhere else in the world for me.” But the biggest news from the panel were host Kevin Smith’s praise.

Smith took to the floor, and explained that the movie was “hilarious”, “adorable”, and “I cannot tell you how emotional this movie was for me.” This gave fans a new hope on whether the film will actually be good or not.

Watch it September 1 in select theaters or from the comfort of your home.

apple tv+ gives us the first look at for all mankind: season 2:

One of the best-reviewed series from streaming newcomer Apple TV+, For All Mankind, gave fans a first look at season 2 with a new teaser trailer. And if you were looking for all-out war in space, well you’re getting it. The series tells an alternative history in which the Space Race never ended, and is created and executive produced by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), and Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi (FargoAmerican Crime Story.) Stars Joel Kinnaman, Michael Dorman, Jodi Balfour, and Wrenn Schmidt return for season 2, which has no set premiere date as yet.

the walking dead season 10 panel and extended finale opening:

The Walking Dead, being one of the most critically and commercially successful shows of all-time, got its own panel today. We tuned into the season 10 panel and got some interesting deets as well as the opening minutes of the anticipated finale of the season, which you can watch above.

This panel spotlighted season 10 episode 16, “A Certain Doom”, but there’s more. The cast and chief content officer said that they would extend the season for six more episodes that should air early 2021. The eleventh and final season didn’t get an exact release date, but it should premiere around late-2021 or early 2022.

The premise of this episode is simply: “Beta engages the final battle of the Whisperer War.” In the first few minutes of the episode, we see Beta lead a group of survivors dressed like the dead after his boss Alpha perishes. This battle at the end of the season pits our group against the hordes of Whisperers.

fear the walking dead: season 6 panel teases characters living under Virginias’ rule:

The long-delayed sixth season f0r TWD spin-off Fear the Walking Dead will finally air 9 p.m., October 11th on AMC. Questions on whether Morgan (Lennie James), who was left to bleed out at the end of the last season, will be okay are on the top of fans’ lists.

Ian Goldberg, the show runner and producer of the series, said that “OK can mean a lot of things.” However, Mr. James, who portrays Morgan, heavily participated in the panel, so the answer just may be right in front of us.

Andrew Chambliss, the other show runner, explained that the episodes will have an anthology structure. Goldberg said that “you’ll see different shades of these characters” now that they are “living under Virginia’s rule.”

Will you be tuning in, or are you tired of the ever-growing The Walking Dead universe?

twd: the world beyond panel focuses on the younger ones:

The most recent spin-off to The Walking Dead, World Beyond, also had its panel. The series was pushed off schedule due to the pandemic, but is now ready to air October 4 at 10 p.m.

Set 10 years after the beginning of the apocalypse, this series more focuses on kids and young adults surviving the Walkers. They are considered the first generation to have grown up with this unrest. Show runner and executive producer Matt Negrete said that the kids “know how to operate, they know how to kill them - but in theory. They’ve never actually done it before.”

These characters don’t call the “zombies” walkers, but they dub them Empties. Negrete explained that this was a reference to the comics.

The show, of course, introduces a slew of new characters including Elizabeth. Chris Hardwick, who also moderated the panel, pointed out that the helicopter Elizabeth arrives in looks awfully similar to the helicopter that took former series lead Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) away.

Julia Ormond, who plays Elizabeth, says that she’s “basically a high-up figure in a soon-to-be discovered new community. She’s more kind of along the lines of the pragmatist character, which I think in terms of The Walking Dead often skews to maybe the sociopathic people.

But the thing is, Ormond explained that her character wouldn’t likely tell anyone of Rick’s whereabouts, and said that “And I, Julia, am not going to say anything, because I’d like to keep my job.”

vikings creator michael hurst promises a proper funeral:

History’s hit show Vikings, which has scored some serious critical acclaim over the years, will air the second half of its sixth, and final, season later this year. Michael Hurst, the series’ creator, said this:

“The characters who we all — including me — have grown to love will all have their fates decided,” Hirst said at the end of his show’s Comic-Con panel, which was moderated by TV Guide magazine’s Kate Hahn. “Whether they live or die is, of course, in the hands of the gods — although I had a hand in it too. I think the conclusion of the saga is deeply satisfying. A proper and meaningful ending. And I hope all our fans will feel the same way. I tried to do justice to all my characters and I hope I succeeded.”

first look and panel for marvel and hulu’s helstrom:

Hulu and Marvel shared some big news today with their new series Helstrom, which hits the service on October 16th.

During the panel, we got an exclusive trailer, as well as an extensive interview with the cast and show runner. They explained that this was a darker take on the superhero genre, and it blended horror with just action. Its cast is also very diverse, with several actors of color.

Show runner Paul Zybszewski explained that it’s a show about good, evil, and the traumas of our pasts. He thoughtfully noted that while it does look like a horror story, he noted that real horror is the many cold-blooded murders of colored-people, most recently with George Floyd.

Sydney Lemmon, who plays Ana Helstrom, teased that there are a couple terrifying locations that they shot at, and Elizabeth Marvel’s dubbed “crazy voice” got us all a little freaked out during the trailer.

Will you have the guts to watch this Marvel mash-up with the horror genre?

A PROJECT POWER INTERVIEW WITH JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT HIMSELF:

Netflix’s new superhero origin story, Project Power, is dropping on the streaming service in mid-August and has a fair amount of anticipation behind its back. It stars both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jamie Foxx, so that excitement is pretty well-deserved. We got an explosive first trailer a couple weeks ago, and during the interview, we got an exclusive scene.

The scene is available to watch in full above. The clip showed off Levitt’s abilities in the movie, whose character has bulletproof skin. The movie is about a pill that can gives the user unique superpowers for five minutes at a time. But you don’t know what’s gonna happen before you take it.

In the interview, they explained that while we won’t likely get a direct sequel, the directors do want to explore other origin stories with the pill. The two directors and Levitt promised that this would be a different take on the conventional superhero story. Levitt also said the movie was both a fun blockbuster, and a reflection on real life with timely themes.

an update and trailer on amazon prime video’s utopia:

Writer Gillian Flynn says: It’s “basically a conspiracy thriller.” About “a group of nerds” who think they’ve uncovered a graphic novel that may have secrets about what’s happening in the world. Utopia has been in development for around seven years now, and is finally being released after the UK version was released in 2013. Flynn explained that the series is “totally relevant” right now considering what our planet is going through with the pandemic.

She also wanted it to be different than the “poppy” British counterpart, making this a grittier, nastier remake. Flynn wanted it to have similar themes to her favorite “70s paranoia thrillers”. She wanted that feeling of paranoia, to “make it feel real”.

Gillian made her bones by writing Gone Girl in 2014, and has since written hit TV series Sharp Objects and recent film Widows, both highly acclaimed. She explained that writing Widows helped her in shaping Utopia as Widows is also a remake based on an older television series, and Flynn has learned to respect the original while making it different.

The cast members said terrific things about the series. John Cusack, who plays Dr. Kevin Christie, praised it. Cusack became obsessed with the script before he got the part, and said it was “ambitious, audacious, sophisticated and funny as hell.” Rainn Wilson also complimented the series while reading the script, saying that it was “grounded” and “outrageous” and “has a nice sense of humor.”

In fact, the ENTIRE cast actually came together at the end and said one sentence to convince audiences to watch it. Stars said it was “dark and chilling”, “you’ve never seen anything like it before”, there’s “a strong, badass leading woman”, “the world is so vibrantly beautiful, thrilling and funny”, and “it’s dope, it will take you on a ride and keep you there. But mainly because it’s dope.”

The show will be available on Amazon this year, I’ll be tuning in, but will you?

the new mutants panel and exclusive footage:

Josh Boone, who is the director of The New Mutants, was always obsessed with the Demon Bear saga, and has dreamt of making a movie on it. It appeals to him because of the blend of dark horror with superhero comics. It was different to most other Marvel origins.

Boone has confirmed a few special things will be on the Blu-Ray DVD as well as the commentary. There will be deleted scenes available, and the test reading between Maisie Williams and Blu Hunt, whose characters have a unique relationship in the movie.

The movie has a few young, forthcoming stars under its belt, with Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones, Anya Taylor-Joy from Emma, and Charlie Heaton from Stranger Things.

At the end of the panel, Boone even gave us the first two minutes of the movie, which is available above.

the boys season 2 panel:

The next panel in the Comic-Con was for the anticipated season two of The Boys, considered one of the most realistic superhero origins ever.

Show runner Eric Kripke and the cast teased some pretty epic character arcs and nuances in the second season. We also got a bloody, awesome exclusive scene dubbed “The Whale” where the Boys and The Deep go head-to-head. It’s available above.

Kripke explained that they actually built a prosthetic whale with no CG effects. It was about 40 feet long! The cast had a total blast filming it as well.

Considering how well-received the first season was, and how great the first looks are for season two, we may be looking at an even better sequel. As I mentioned before, each character supposedly has a far different and inventive arc in this next season.

We may be looking at an entire franchise here, so head over to Amazon to watch the first season before the second one airs, especially since it has just been renewed for a third season already.
