So What’s the Story

Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of Freddie Mercury living a life of family struggles, and embarrassment. Soon he meets a struggling college band performing in bars, and party’s. After their main singer leaves Freddie sees the golden opportunity to replace him, and slowly form the band that would soon be called Queen. You follow this band’s path to success as Freddie undergoes devastating truths that will change his life forever.

Is It Worth your While?

Bohemian Rhapsody was surprisingly not as good as I pictured it to be, especially storywise. Now here are my reasons. First of all I thought that directing by Brian Singer was overall not that great. He had a few impressive shots, but lacked a solid build up in story, and decided that he thought it would be cool to not make this incredible story shown, and so we should make it seem like a rock concert, that’s what audiences like right? No! Audiences may have liked the highly impressive soundtrack, and cast, but they need to hear a story otherwise it’s chaos! Also I thought that the script was the real weak point in the movie. Because there was none! There were tiny moments of little conversations during the movie which did not matter at all all I have to say is that it must have been a short script. During the story there are many important characters such as Freddie’s dad, but they make big characters like him seem like small characters in the movie making it feel like only Queen mattered in the movie. Overall I thought that Bohemian Rhapsody has an impressive soundtrack, and a few good shots, but it lacks character development, a good script, and a solid story.

How Was the Cast?

The cast in the film was the real good part about the experience. First we have Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury. He gave a truly electrifying performance even with the lack of story. He had a beautiful singing voice, and took the role with flare, and passion, and really lit up the stage during the movie. Next we have Lucy Boynton as Mary Austin. Her performance was cheesy, and amazing all at the same time. She provided solid emotion throughout the entire movie, even though she has a few brief loving moments that are only so-so, and full of cringe. Third we have Gwilym Lee as brian May. Also providing an electrifying performance, and a dazzling singing voice. It’s safe to say that he could have been a true member of a band if he wanted to. The rest of the band including Ben Hardy, and Joseph Mazzello. All had something in common with the others they all just seemed the right choice for a strong, and fun band called Queen. They all performed with emotion, passion, and all of the traits needed to play in this movie.

Aging ‘Queen’

Bohemian Rhapsody has a few loving moments with the same gender, and with the opposite. There is talk of a deadly disease called AIDS that could scare younger children of the topic, the entire band is extremly talented, but Freddie is most of the time a jerk to his family, and friends. So I would not exactly call him a model for children given the current synopsis of his form of character. Overall I recommend this film to younger teens all the way up to adults for sexuality, and hardcore topics that are hard to understand.
